OH YEAH. Last night after talking to someone I realized that I DO NOT ACTUALLY HAVE A CRIT POST ANYMORE because it used to be housed on Tomo's journal and well lol. So here's a new one!

Crit policy stuff: I accept crit through basically any method you prefer. Anon or non-anon doesn't matter to me. You can comment on this post, e-mail me (halfcocked at livejournal, monkeypop at gmail, or mrpnapple at cs.com if it's urgent/I haven't replied), PM me on IRC (Devit), or comment to me in cfud_concrit. I comment there pretty much every week; I only skip if I'm very late to the post AND I didn't play much that week.

Comments will be screened here and anon commenting should be on, IP logging should be off. If you are commenting here, let me know whether you want your comment to remain screened. I WILL PROBABLY WANT TO REPLY TO YOU. And when I do I'll just rescreen them both, and then if you want to reply BACK you can do it in a new comment so it doesn't unscreen the whole thread. But I won't bother if you don't care/want the comments to be visible anyway.

The only thing I ask wrt crit is that you put up with my babbling a little at you. |D Please don't take this as like. "LET ME EXPLAIN WHY I AM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG." Because that's not it at all and I take everything into account, even if I don't agree with it. But I love talking about my characters and explaining their minds! And if something's wrong I like to know where it WENT wrong so I can work on that without worrying about stuff that . . . is not wrong. For this reason I like crit in PM, actually, but that makes it harder to be not anon and not everyone uses it anyway, so post/comment/e-mail are all equally fine with me. (Also with PM there's the chance I'll be busy.) I will probably be slowest about noticing an e-mail.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

Okay I lied it's not actually important. But here it is anyway :'D

I FEEL LIKE IT'S VITAL TO NOTE THAT DEVIT DOESN'T DRESS THE SAME WAY IN THE WINTERTIME. I wasn't going to bump last year's post about it because well I don't want to get into silly Suefic "this is what my character is wearing at all times" territory. But within the past week I've had like, five threads where people assumed Devit was wearing the half-pants even though there's a foot of snow on the ground. XD IT AIN'T SO, KIDS. Devit hates the cold, so in the winter months he does in fact wear clothing that covers him completely. It's still not TASTEFUL clothing, it's still bizarre and goth/punk/glam/whatever and tight and there's a lot of leather involved. Some of it probably looks like it was made for teenage girls who shop at Hot Topic. :( BUT he is not showing skin, at least not to the extent he does when it's warm.

HE PROBABLY LOOKS A LITTLE MORE LIKE THIS only a bit more gaudy than that. Also Maora-chan got him a new coat. ;o;

HIATUS UPDATE!!!

So I have decided not to do the "handwave and my characters were totally around" thing except for Rise. This is mostly for my own ease because I don't want to like, be threading with Devit in a week and have the other party mention "REMEMBER THAT TIME MASQUE ATE PEOPLE" and me be like "lol yeah sure I was totally there for that!"

Here is what Devit has on him at any given time. He has four pockets, all on the inside of his coat.


POCKET 1 (lower right pocket): his gun, and bullets.

POCKET 2 (lower left pocket): treats for animals (mostly Burupya). It used to have chicken feed in it too until Jasdero left :( Now it's mostly like, a couple of dog biscuits. He tries to feed them to Ken sometimes and probably succeeds.

POCKET 3 (upper right pocket): Cross's bills. A HUGE STACK OF BILLS AND RECEIPTS AND DEBT DEBT DEBT bound in a book which is much too big to fit into the pocket but somehow does through hammerspace law.

POCKET 4 (upper left pocket): MISCELLANEOUS THINGS:

* a small notebook
* a pencil
* a small book of poetry Hakuren gave him as a gift once. It doesn't show any signs of having been read, but it's always in there.
* a compact mirror
* lipgloss and eyeliner

ETA OKAY so--as for why they look so docile. IDK, SOB. People keep pointing out to me that they LOOK KIND OF OUT OF IT and so on. Basically I have four theories.

1. They have/had Innocence poisoning from their fight and something is Wrong with them; either the Earl had to do something to them to keep them under control or the Innocence itself messed with them/weakened them
2. The two panels they're in aren't really meant to be indicative of personality, since all they're doing is sitting there receiving orders and the situation is serious/all the Noah are present, so they're just chilling out and putting on a public face and when we actually see them DO SOMETHING they'll be normal; the only purpose of these two panels is "Look they're alive and wearing this," so who cares about ICness
3. Hoshino is allergic to drawing anyone as unsexy, and so naturally they've matured a bit in both looks and personality, because this allows for more manservice (NOTICE JASDERO'S LACK OF STITCHES AND HEADBOBBLE, HE LOOKS LIKE A NORMAL PERSON NOW)
4. Hoshino forgot how to draw them in the two years since they've appeared, which has happened to her before

DEVIT HAS A TATTOO! He got this for many deeply meaningful, character development-related reasons and not at all just because I thought it would be sexy. How could you even think that!

. . . Well okay, no. It's both, really! ;o; I DID WANT TO GIVE HIM THE TATTOO and it was something he'd been vaguely wanting IC for months for shallow reasons of "I am so badass and I want a tattoo, that would be so cool." But because Devit has Awkwardness around Castor, it took the past month's worth of camp events to actually get him to ask for it, and when he did it was for several reasons. One of which is "TATTOOS ARE COOL AND I'M A BAD BAD MAN." But others of which are more meaningful than that, okay. Most of it is easy to pick up on if you read his recent threads, but oh well, I'm rambling about it anyway.

This is also a general "State of the Union Post-Jasdero" and "Devit's post-camp plans" thingie, because that's tied in very closely! And tbh I was going to do the State of the Union meme but then I realized only Devit and Hyuuga are in interesting places right now ICly. HYUUGA'S MINI-ESSAY WILL COME NEXT, IT'S NOT THAT COMPLICATED.

The first time I did this he married Sui, but I fucked up one of the questions (listing buildings/types of houses instead of cities/locations) so I had to redo it. Devit and Jasdero have been meaning to create their own cabin/BADASS FORT for a long time now, to live in by themselves. AND THAT TIME IS NOW, especially since they got some help from Ed at Christmas time and now they live alone in the Pimp Cabin with Ticky.

Anyway. So Devit's been in camp for about 8.5 months now. And I was thinking about how Devit has adapted to camp in that time and why. At the moment in camp, Devit is--fairly content. He's as content as Devit gets, which is to say that he still flies off the handle, and he still breaks down over stupid things and busts out with "I DON'T KNOW WHY I DON'T JUST KILL YOU ALL RIGHT NOW"--but then he's able to suppress that urge (if he wants to) instead of actually going through with it in a fit of rage. And that's what "content" is for Devit. XD His tendency towards violence at the moment is low. YOU WILL PROBABLY SURVIVE PISSING HIM OFF unless you really push it or you piss Jasdero off too.

I was thinking about this shift, and how it's come about, and what exactly happened in his head to facilitate it. The short answer is that Devit believes in the inherent weakness and evil and uselessness of humans as much as he ever did, but he is less angry at them about it, and so he's less inclined to kill them in anger, although his inclination to kill them for other reasons has not diminished.
